Unlike incandescents, these lamps are not as bright. The most common gas used in these lamps is neon gas despite its name, and this is because it produces a bright red color when electricity is applied to the tube. For other colors such as blue, green, and yellow, the gas has to be mixed with other gasses to achieve the desired effect.
