The 4N36S optoisolator is designed to provide a minimum isolation voltage of 5,000 volts peak/ 3,750 volts DC. Its functional principle is based on the absorption of light energy, which transforms into electrical energy, thus enabling the transmission of signals between two electrical circuits which are otherwise electrically isolated. The optoisolator is composed of two major components, the LED and the photodiode. The LED is an electrical-to-optical part which emits light when a voltage is applied. The photodiode is then responsible for converting the light energy into electrical energy. This is done by the light energy being absorbed by the photodiode and causing a current flow.
