Clock/Timing - Clock Generators, PLLs, Frequency Synthesizers

The 502MILF series is a new type of low power, low jitter and wide voltage range Clock/Timing product. It is a perfect choice for many industrial applications and telecom application systems. It is available in a variety of packages and clock frequencies ranging from 40 kHz to 300MHz. It also offers flexible control options with selectable output configurations, such as top-edge and bottom-edge, or optionally a zero delay buffer (ZDB) with both edges available.

The 502MILF is designed to provide an extremely accurate and low-jitter clock signal at the output. It is equipped with a high-performance phase-locked loop (PLL) circuit to control clock generation, as well as a small phase/frequency detector (PFD). It also features built-in phase frequency lock logic (PFL) and low phase noise outputs. Additionally, the PLL provides exceptional drift characteristics, allowing it to maintain accuracy over long periods of time.

Working Principle

The 502MILF series is based on the PLL operation principle. It uses the input clock signal to lock the output clock to that frequency. The input clock signal is supplied to the PFD, which is also connected to the VCO. The PFD then analyzes the phase and frequency of the input signal and adjusts the frequency of the VCO accordingly. The PLL then uses the output from the VCO as the output clock signal.

The 502MILF also provides a variety of control options. These include the ability to reverse the output phase, select edge triggers between top-edge and bottom-edge, and the ability to output a zero-delay buffer (ZDB). As the PLL operates in loop mode, both edges of the output signal are available with the ZDB mode. This allows for designated programmable duty cycles of the output clock, with duty cycles ranging from 20% to 80%. It is also possible to select between these two modes in several seconds without having to reprogram the device.
