50357-1168D backplane connectors are specialized to provide power between the front and back panels of a variety of electronic equipment. The connectors are constructed from robust materials to withstand environmental stress and temperature up to 125°C. The 50357-1168D backplane connector comprises of two mating parts, each with a specific set of functions. The backpanel component consists of one or more power pins, providing power between the two panels. It also provides a contact protection circuit and grounding contacts for additional safety. The frontpanel component provides the interface for the power pins; it might consist of several pins in one or two rows for mating. The contact points of both mated parts are plated with gold for added reliability and durability while providing strong electrical contacts when mated together.

In order for the connector to work effectively, it must ensure secure and accurate mating and retention of the two mated parts. This is attained through a combination of positive and negative retention features. The backpanel component utilizes spring pins while the frontpanel component employs a support ledge and ramp. The 50357-1168D backplane connector also contains protectors, which guide the mating backs into the correct position and prevents foreign matter, such as dust, from entering the connection system.
