The 51915-056 connector is a specialized backplane connector. It is designed for high density application, with the maximum pitch of 2mm. It has a symmetric design, two rows with a total of nine differential pairs, each containing two high speed lanes for differential signals and supporting transfer rate up to 6.25 Gbps. 51915-056 is classified as a high-density connector and is suitable for data communication systems, such as computer systems, storage systems, telephone systems, audio and video systems, digital TV systems, etc. The high data transfer rate and the low power consumption make 51915-056 ideal for system design where the signal traces are limited in number and the limited board space is a challenge.

The 51915-056 backplane connector is composed of a contact array and a housing element. Its housing is black, made of nylon 66, UL94V-0 grade, with a height of 9.7 mm and a grid array of 9 × 2 pins. The contact array consists of three sections, a ground plane, a power plane, and a signal plane. on the ground plane, to ensure a better shielding performance, two pins are equipped with two metal clips and a finger grounding contact, while the other two grounding pins contain shielding beads. On the power plane, two pins are connected to the housing with two circuits, each containing five copper contact fingers. On the signal plane, three pins are equipped with three engaging metal clips, two of which are connected by a two-pole hanging clip, and the other is connected by the design of four poles, two by two.

When the 51915-056 backplane connector is used, the two terminated contacts need to be attached to a substrate, such as a printed circuit board (PCB). then the two identical housing elements need to be assembled on the two sides of the connectors. Once these steps are completed, the mating process of the connectors can be completed by inserting two applicable contacts. The insertion process is completed through the coated contour contact fingers wrapped around the engaged pin, ensuring the stability and reliability of the connection.
