A 572D227X96R3B2T tantalum capacitor is composed of a tantalum anode in the form of a sintered pellet, an electrolyte, a cathode lead and an insulating oxide film in the form of a layer on the anode. A tantalum pellet electrode is formed by putting presses a mixture of powdered tantalum and silver into a cylindrically shaped dies and then sintering them. A tantalum oxide layer is formed on the surface of the pellet electrode when it is heated in an oxygen atmosphere. The degree to which it defends against reverse polarity and overvoltage is determined by the thickness of the oxide layer. The cathode lead is connected to the capacitor at one end and is negatively charged.
