The 581G-01ILF is a programmable clock generator for frequency synthesis and PLL circuit applications. It is ideally suited for a wide range of applications including data communications, network control, clock synthesis, and clocking solutions.

The 581G-01ILF is designed to provide a PLL-based frequency synthesizer that can produce any output frequency within its operating range with minimal jitter. This is achieved by design and accurate cadence of the digital control logic and output frequency synthesis. A selectable post-dividers allows the 581G-01ILF to output a wide range of clock frequencies while maintaining the same jitter characteristics.

The 581G-01ILF has two main parts: a programmable PLL frequency synthesizer and an oscillator circuit. The PLL frequency synthesizer operates on a input frequency, which is divided down by the programmable post-dividers. The output of the divider is then compared with a programmable reference frequency from a crystal oscillator. The difference of these two signals is then relayed to a loop filter. A voltage controlled Oscillator (VCO) changes frequency in response to this voltage, and is kept in phase lock to the input frequency. The output frequency from the VCO is then divided back down using post-dividers and fed back into the PLL. This creates a feedback loop and the PLL is able to synthesise a stable frequency output at the desired level.

The output frequency of the 581G-01ILF is determined by the input frequency, the VCXO frequency and the reference frequency. The available range is specified in the datasheet, which guarantees that the frequency accuracy and jitter are maintained within specified levels. Different Frequency synthesis modes are available to suit the application: Spread spectrum and Fractional-N.

The output frequency is available in either 3.3V or 1.8V logic levels. All 8 outputs can be enabled/disabled independently to provide a wide range of frequencies and logic levels. The post-dividers can also be programmed to any value between 1 and 8.
