LEDs - Circuit Board Indicators, Arrays, Light Bars, Bar Graphs
LEDs (Light-Emitting Diodes) are highly versatile electronic components often used in circuit board indicators, arrays, light bars and bar graphs. They are a type of semiconductor light emitting diode that uses very little power and produces little heat, making them perfect for difficult to heat or control environments. They have found favour in a range of industries and applications due to their versatility and relative simplicity, from automotive applications to industrial machinery, signaling and safety equipment, medical devices, and domestic lighting.
The LED consists of a solid state negative (N-type) and positive (P-type) semiconductor. A forward voltage is applied across the N-type and P-type, creating “ holes ” that electrons can move through. When an electron passes through the junction, energy is released in the form of light, of which can be visible or infrared depending on the type of LED used. By adjusting the voltage, current, and various parameter, the intensity of the light can be controlled and the LED can be used to indicate direction, indicate speed, or even represent levels in a graph.
When many LEDs are clustered together, they can be used to create various circuits and systems. For example, LEDs are usually used in arrays and light bars, where the discrete nature of each LED allows for specific and unique information to be displayed. By combining LEDs in stages or in multiples, circuits can be created that control a sequence of operation. Also, bar graphs are formed when multiple LEDs are combined in a linear array, allowing for pressure, current, temperature, and other values to be displayed in an analog form. In this way, LEDs are used to transform a simple circuit into a sophisticated, graphically represented display.
LEDs can be used for the same thing as traditional bulbs or indicators, but with much greater flexibility and efficiency. LEDs consume very little power, have a much longer lifetime than traditional bulbs, and require little to no maintenance. They are also far more attractive and can be arrayed, shaped, and programmed in a variety of different configurations. LEDs can vary in size and shape, allowing for more intricate and interesting design possibilities than traditional bulbs.
LEDs can be used in all kinds of applications. From smart lighting systems that adjust the illumination level within a room according to the desired output, to military and industrial environments where LED indicators are used as warning systems and to display instrument readings, LEDs are extremely versatile and found in all kinds of applications.
LEDs are becoming more and more common as we continue to move towards technologies that are more energy efficient and easier to use. LEDs are the perfect solution for many applications and can be designed and assembled in a variety of ways to suit a range of needs. From arrays and light bars to bar graphs, LEDs are the most versatile and efficient choice when it comes to indicator systems.
