5CLE-20E-D is a fast acting, single pole, UL 248-14 approved fuse. It is typically used in environments where the potential for a large current to flow suddenly is high such as critical motor control systems, refrigeration equipment, and many other applications. The 5CLE-20E-D has a voltage rating of 600VAC/250VDC with maximum interrupting capacity of 200,000 amps AC and 35,000 amps DC.

The 5CLE-20E-D applies the standard electrical engineering principle of vaporization to cut off a circuit by melting the internal fuse wire when the current tension is too high. The welded junction of the fuse wire breaks completely, such that the current can no longer flow. The 5CLE-20E-D features time-delay properties that allow it to take 10 to 8 seconds before it will open, allowing motors to gradually decelerate during safe start-up without tripping the fuse.

The 5CLE-20E-D is designed with a twofold layer of insulation and self-extinguishing thermoplastic components. This means that upon opening the device, the layer of insulation prevents any dangerous electrical arcs from forming between the load and power supplies. Furthermore, the self-extinguishing components limit the risk of a short-circuit in the event of an overload.
