TVS – or transient voltage suppressors – are a class of semiconductor devices used for voltage protection. Though traditionally created with a three-terminal configuration, the 5KP160-B – or “metal electrostatic capacity diode” – is a two-terminal offering. Created by semiconductor equipment manufacturer Semtech Corporation, the 5KP160-B is designed to protect against EOS, ESD, and other overvoltage events.As its name implies, the two-terminal metal electrostatic capacity diode draws on capacitive properties to protect sensitive circuits from damaging surges.
