Offered in electrode-end termination type, the 5KP18A-TP covers a wide range of peak power (Ppk) ratings from 5,000 to 30,000 watts (W), and a wide operating temperature range from -65° to 150° Celsius (C).

The 5KP18A-TP has an avalanche breakdown mechanism that rovides a much lower clamping voltage, faster response, and higher surge capability than a traditional metal-oxide varistor (MOV). It is constructed by depositing a thin oxide layer, such as silicon dioxide, on an N-type semiconductor substrate. When an electrical current passes through the diode, excessive voltages are diverted to the drain pad, away from the sensitive components, and the voltage is clamped. The working principle is similar to that of a traditional Zener diode, except that the 5KP18A-TP is designed to maintain a constant breakdown voltage and exhibits a wide dynamic range, in addition to its higher surge capability.

The 5KP18A-TP is ideal for protecting automotive electronics from automotive transients.
