5NLE2250E application field and working principle
The 5NLE2250E is a supplementary current-limiting fuse suitable for branch circuits and distribution systems in low-voltage electrical applications. These electrical applications demand controlling short-circuit currents and particularly, those types of applications which include industrial equipment with decentralized architecture and motor controls, IT plants, transformers, etc. 5NLE2250E fuses are capable of protecting circuits from overloads, short-circuits or any type of damage caused by electrical faults. They are particularly useful for the electrical control and protection of electric motors, distribution panels and motors of machinery that should be protected in case of any sudden change in electrical flow.
For their electrical and mechanical construction, 5NLE2250E fuses are designed in two-pole configuration and current ratings range from 20A to 4000A. Designed in accordance with UL 248-14, these current-limiting electric fuses have a design voltage of 600V AC/DC, an interrupting rating of 200 thousand amperes (kA) symmetrical at 600V AC/DC and an operating time of 8 seconds at 500% rated amps. 5NLE2250E fuses include thermal overload protection, indicating LEDs, flame-proof construction, protections against load losses and a high degree of reliability.
In regard to their operation, 5NLE2250E fuses are designed to protect circuits from overcurrent. This is achieved by incorporating a bi-metallic element connected to a sensing coil, which in turn is connected in series to the protected circuit. When too much voltage passes through the protected circuit, the bi-metallic element triggered by too high of current, bends and closes the circuit, which is sensed by the sensing coil. This process causes the activation of the contacts of the thermal overload, allowing further current to pass to the protected circuit and acts as a direct trip. The thermal overloads operate on a time-delay basis making it possible to cut off the current before it reaches the previously defined threshold.
5NLE2250E fuses provide the best performance when it comes to protecting against overcurrent and short-circuits, reducing the risk of fire and damage to heat-sensitive equipment such as motors. In addition, they provide faster response times than other types of fuses, guaranteeing more reliable protection in most applications. 5NLE2250E fuses are also easy to install and are available in different shapes and sizes, according to their current and voltage ratings.
