5ST 100 is a new type of fuses which are applicable for short-circuit protection of power transformers, motor switches, air heaters, and other special-purpose power circuit. This fuse consists of a short tubular body made up of hard alloy silver or zinc housing, an inner metal wire, and a fuse link. It has two ends and a porcelain cap situated at one end with a metallic cover protecting it.

Additionally, it can also be used for guarding power transformers in power electronic circuits, to safeguard circuit assets from the effects of short circuits, and to assist in switching motors in the occurrence of critical overloads.

Working Principle

The 5ST 100 works on the principle ofthe fuse link melting shut down at the onset of overload or short circuit and blocking the power supply. This action allows for the electrical energy to be diverted away from an electrical means, thus preventing any unintentional damage. During the normal operation of the fuse, the 5ST 100 is completely transparent to the energy flow and offers no limitation on the electrical power supply.

When the electrical system experiences an overload or fault and the predetermined current level is exceeded, the fuse link melts and opens the connection. This places a break in the current and keeps the flow of electricity limited as well as protecting the equipment. The fuse link of the 5ST 100 must be replaced with the same fuse type and rating in order to maintain the equipment’s ability to protect it from future overloads and short-circuits.
