The 5V41236PGG, a CMOS programmable real-time single chip clock generator, is an application specific IC designed to meet the needs of clock, timing and power management requirements in personal computers, digital cameras and other consumer electronic products. It is the latest addition to the family of clock generators from National Semiconductor.
The 5V41236PGG comes in a 4-pin SOT-23 package and is designed to operate over an operating temperature range of −30 °C to +85 °C. Input and output types are TTL, LVCMOS and Negative Edge. It is capable of providing clock/timing signals in a wide range of frequencies, from 10 kHz to 134 MHz with phase jitter (10 kHz to 1.7 MHz) as low as 12 ps. The device control multiple outputs that are individually programmable and are synchronized to each other with a variety of on-chip selectable options.
The 5V41236PGG features an advanced dual phase-locked loop (PLL) architecture that implements frequency control, synchronization and phase-shifting features. This device features two independent PLLs, with each PLL having the capability to output a reference clock and generate multiple synchronized programmable outputs. This device contains an on-chip voltage reference, voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), phase frequency detector (PFD), charge pump, loop filter, multiplexer and a phase-locked loop (PLLC) circuit for each PLL.
This device is powered by a single 5V supply, consumes very low static current, and is compliant with the Green alternative, offering a choice of power-saving coherency control modes – Sleep Mode and Deep Sleep Mode – to further reduce power consumption. The 5V41236PGG is also designed with a comprehensive set of features designed to eliminate the burden of external components which, in turn, reduces the cost, can save space and improve system reliability.
The 5V41236PGG provides an ideal clock generator solution for x86 and ARM based CPUs, graphics, memory and microcontrollers. It is designed to deliver maximum performance and features a fully integrated on-chip interface to automatically detect and monitor the state of multiple synchronized outputs. The device also provides flexible power management support, advanced jitter attenuation to minimise clock noise and advanced skew control for improved timing accuracy for delicate HDL designs.
The 5V41236PGG supports asynchronous programmable output pins; non-overlap skew controls for multiple outputs, advanced spread spectrum capabilities, on-the-fly frequency switch. In addition, it integrates processes such as stop-on-fail, static / active monitoring, temperature sensing and built-in self-test (BIST) functions. These features greatly enhance reliability and reduce the overall bill of material for the system.
