The 5V49EE503NLGI is a highly integrated linear frequency synthesisers, based on phase-locked loop (PLL). It combines a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) programmable linearly up to 2 GHz and a low jitter differential phase/frequency detector (PFD). It also includes an integrated loop filter, reference divider, MUX/ MULs for accuracy PLL mode operation and a low power 3.3 volts CMOS modulator. It is part of the 49 series ICs suitable for a variety of clock/timing applications.
Applications
The 49EE503NLGI is a versatile IC ideal for a range of applications such as televisions, cellular phones, radios and satellite navigation systems. The clock oscillator offers low phase noise and is compliant to any output frequency range required by consumer products. It has input reference of 10MHz, 1.9 GHz and a typical output frequency range of 0.5-2.5GHz. Frequency detuning or frequency deviation can be done with the help of a calibration table. This feature ensures that the synchronization frequency is within a few parts per million of the ideal output frequency.
The IC is also suitable for clock sources in radio transmitters and receivers, digital video broadcast systems, clock recovery in digital communications, frequency synthesizers, ultrasound imaging systems and electronic navigation systems.
Working Principle
The 49EE503NLGI is based on a phase-locked loop (PLL), where a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) is connected to a differential phase/frequency detector (PFD), which also takes an input of reference clock signal. The detected frequency error of the VCO output is taken as an input by the loop filter, which is connected in series with a voltage-controlled-divider (VCD). The filtered error signal is compared to the reference signal, and the resulting error correction within the loop ensures proper synchronization of the VCO output to the reference signal.
The IC also contains multiplexers (MUX) and an multiplier (MUL) which can multiply the reference frequency by an adjustable factor. This allows for a wider output range, accuracy and flexibility. An additional control voltage input can also be used to adjust the output frequency within a certain range. With this, a wide range of output frequencies can be achieved.
The 49EE503NLGI also has an integrated modulator which converts the digital output of the PFD into an analog voltage. This helps to reduce the power consumption and increase output accuracy. The low jitter, fast lock time and low power consumption of this IC make it a suitable choice for modern applications which require high performance clock/timing generators.
