Introduction to D-Sub Connectors
D-Sub connectors are a type of computer port used for a variety of applications. They are most commonly used in the telecommunications and computer industries, as well as in medical systems and various other electrical products. D-Sub connectors are also known as PC connectors, ASCII-style connectors, or simply D- connectors.
Design of D-Sub Connectors
D- connectors are rectangular connectors that usually feature two parallel rows of pins that are arranged in multiple rows. They have two metal shells which serve as the connector’s frame. On the rear, these shells have a locking mechanism that provides support for the pins, ensuring secure connections and preventing pin damage. Furthermore, the metallic shells also protect from electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio-frequency interference (RFI).
Applications of D-Sub Connectors
D-Sub connectors can be used for a wide variety of applications and are available in thousands of configurations and sizes. The most common type is the DE-15, also known as HD-15, and is widely used as a VGA connector, although it is also used for other types of signals. This type of D-Sub connector may have up to 15 pins, but can also be found with fewer pins.
In addition to video signals, D-Sub connectors are also used for RS-232/422/485 serial communications, SMA connectors, IDC connectors, coaxial cables, Cat5e cables, and even Ethernet cables. D-Sub connectors can also be used for LVDS, HDMI, fiber optical cables, Karaoke cables, and other data signals.
6-747844-9 Application Field and Working Principle
The 6-747844-9 D-Sub connector is a type of DE-9 connector, a nine-pin D-Sub connector developed by the Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in the 1960s. The DEC series was the first to adopt the 10-pin D-Sub layout, which has since been adopted by almost all manufacturers. The 6-747844-9 D-Sub connector features a parallel port that is used to connect either a male or female computer-style plug to connect two computers or two serial-type devices that have this type of port.
When the two devices are connected, the connector will act as a bridge between the two devices, allowing data to pass between them. This bridge is formed by the contacts of the mating connectors which are placed on either side of the D-Sub connector. Data is transferred through the pins of the connector by passing a signal through a wire which is in contact with the contacts.
