PTC resettable fuses, also known as polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) resettable fuses, are overcurrent protection devices available in different sizes, voltage ratings and current ratings. They provide short-circuit protection for electrical and electronic circuits, while also providing overcurrent protection. The devices can be reactivated after each overcurrent event, making them ideal for use in applications such as power supplies, power strips and consumer electronics.PTC resettable fuses work by utilizing a voltage-sensitive, temperature-dependent polymer material. This material exhibits a positive temperature coefficient and a high electrical resistance at low temperatures. When a current passes through the device, it raises the temperature of the polymer material, causing it to expand and decrease its resistance. This decrease in resistance causes the circuit to become less efficient and eventually trip the breaker, disconnecting the circuit. When the temperature of the material cools, it shrinks and resumes its high electrical resistance, restoring the circuit and resetting the device.The 600R150UR application field is particularly well suited for use in consumer electronics, such as TVs, radios and cell phones, where a very low profile is required for utility space savings and manual reset protection. The device is suitable for use in circuits up to 250 volts (AC/DC) and 7 amps (continuous operation) or 1.1 amps (intermittent operation) and offers high surge protection with an operating temperature between -40C and +85C.In addition to providing short circuit and over current protection, PTC resettable fuses can help reduce the risk of fire in consumer electronics by providing over temperature protection. As the temperature of the polymer material increases, it shrinks and breaks the circuit, disconnecting the power to the device.
