The clock generator 601M-01ILF provides a simple, yet efficient means for generating periodic clock or pulse signals to maintain precise timing synchronization between devices within a digital system. It is specifically designed to generate a variety of modern clock signals such as LVCMOS, HCSL, MIMO and diffclk. Its applications include memory and interface timing, CPU clock and frequency synthesis.
The 601M-01ILF works as a two-stage clock generator (also called a PLL) which combines a phase-locked loop and a frequency synthesizer. It utilizes two independent outputs to generate a wide range of frequencies and a variety of output operations with maximum flexibility. The 601M-01ILF’s frequency synthesis is able to generate virtually any frequency within the clock range of up to 1.2GHz. The two output channels can be set to generate unique frequencies, or can be synchronized for a single frequency output.
The basic operation of the 601M-01ILF is built on the principle of a phase-locked loop (PLL). The input signal of the device is applied to its input comparator. This comparator compares the incoming frequency with the reference frequency and will generate an output signal based on the comparison result. Depending on the mode of operation, this signal will be used to adjust the magnitude of the PLL’s tunable amplifier. This adjustment in turn will change the frequency of the output.
The 601M-01ILF has two outputs. The first is a dedicated clock output channel which supports various output operations including LVCMOS and HCSL. The second output is a dedicated frequency synthesizer which can generate virtually any frequency within the clock range of up to 1.2GHz. The two output channels can be set to generate unique frequencies independently, or can be coordinated for a fixed frequency output.
The 601M-01ILF’s flexible frequency synthesizer provides maximum programming flexibility for a variety of signals such as clock generation, modulation, frequency division, and chip select.
