60435-1 Application Field and Working Principle

60435-1 is a member of Industrial Standard IEC 60352 that defines criteria for the working, performance, materials, and manufacturing process of quick connects and disconnects. This type of connectors is used in electrical and electronic systems, for example, home appliances, automobiles, machines, and industrial equipments. The main purpose of the connector is to provide a way of disconnecting the power supply and other high voltages.

The 60435-1 IEC international standard defines requirements of quick connectors in terms of their safety, reliability, and features. The standard specifies characteristics of current conducting parts, plastic insulation of quick connector housings, materials of contacts, insulation resistance test, dielectric strength test, and other performance evaluation tests that have to be met by a quick connector in order to be considered compliant with the standard. Additionally, the 60435-1 standard addresses the products application fields, conditions of use, materials, and quality management of manufacturing process.

As an essential feature for the quick connector, the principle of quick connecting and disconnecting follows the traditional single-way principle. When the plug is inserted and engaged with the socket, the internal components of the quick connector operate under the force of the plug, making a reliable connection. When the plug is finally disconnected from the socket, the internal components will also be released from the engagement.

The single-way principle involves the design and manufacture of the base of the quick connector, installed in a safe place, as well as the antistatic guide of the plug that is designed in a way that allows the plug to be easily inserted and locked. This joint is securely held together by the locking mechanism, and the inner structure of the joint ensures a structural reliability of the connection.

In addition, the 60435-1 standard also specifies environmental protection requirements. For example, the atmospheric pressure during the operation of the quick connector should be kept at a certain value, and the working environment should be free of dust, dirt, and other particles.
