The insulating hood is made with Polyurethane (PU), also a UL94 V-2 rated flame retardant material. The locking device is a single screw that holds the cable securely in place inside the housing. Finally, the terminal cap is a plastic cap which acts as the dust and moisture seal.

When mated the two components of the 61598-1 terminal form a 360° waterproof and dustproof connection. The screw lock provides 30 lb-in of torque, which prevents loosening of the wire connection. The locking screw also has an indicator screw so that it can be confirmed that the connection has been properly secured.
