The 62628-2 connector has a metal frame and contact assembly, with a plastic housing. It can be classified as either a free-hanging connector, in which electrical power is supplied by a plug (male, female or double ended), or a panel mounted connector, in which electrical power is supplied by a receptacle (female or double ended) mounted in a panel.

The 62628-2 connector utilizes a dielectric release sleeve system, and the contact action and release mechanism are controlled by the sleeve. The contact is released from the sleeve by axial displacement, and the contact is fully retained in the receptacle. It is designed to make an instant electricalcontact when the plug is mated to the receptacle, and can be mated and unmated up to 100 times.

The 62628-2 connector can operate within a temperature range from -25°C to +85°C. Its current capacity is 3A per contact. It has insulation resistance greater than 100MΩ, and contact resistance lower than 3Mo. It has excellent EMC properties, with high level insertion loss hindrance. Certifications have been obtained to IEC 61914-2 for EMI/RFI performance.

It is suitable for use in low voltage and signal applications, such as computer/peripheral connections, interconnections for office equipment, industrial automation, audio/video and broadcast transmission and interconnections, and telecommunications.
