Working Principle
The 62A01-02-040S encoder operates according to the optical principle. The system comprises one codewheel which is connected to a duple rotating axis of the system. The optical sensor array is located at a certain distance from the codewheel. When the codewheel rotates, light sources illuminates the codewheel segments and the light is directed onto the optical sensor array.
The optical sensor array consists of four identical quadrant sensors. The quadrant sensors comprises an infrared emitting diode and an infrared sensitive phototransistor. The system produces two square waves, which are 90 degrees out of phase. The waveforms represent the rotary motion of the codewheel. The duty cycle of the waveforms corresponds to the angular motion of the codewheel.
The system provides a complete sin/cos output, which is ideal for calculating angular velocity and position with high accuracy in realtime. The 62A01-02-040S encoder is a rugged and reliable solution for many demanding industrial applications.
