Working Principle of the 62C2222-02-P Encoder

The 62C2222-02-P is an incremental rotary encoder. Its two digital outputs measure the relative position and rotation of a stepper motor. The encoder resolutions up to 2,500 pulses per revolution (ppr) and an optional second output which is phase-shifted 90 degrees to the main output. This encoder uses a rotating disc with alternating light and dark segments to generate a series of digital pulses in response to the motor’s rotational direction.

The encoder’s two digital outputs provide the motor’s speed, direction of rotation, and the amount of rotation over a given period of time. Based on this information, the rotor or linear position of the motor can be monitored and controlled.
