Working Principle
The 62V11-01-020C encoder operates on the principle of incremental encoding. An incremental encoder measures the relative motion of a shaft by generating a series of electrical pulses which are proportional to the speed and direction of the shaft rotation. This encoder uses two signal discs, the first is a single magnetic disc and the second is a multi-pole, multi-track disc of alternating North and South pole orientation. The first disc is positioned on the motor shaft while the second is held stationary by the encoder housing. When the motor shaft rotates, the magnetic field of the stationary disc interacts magnetically with the poles of the rotating disc. This interaction generates a series of pulses that are counts of the number of times the magnetic field changes from North to South. This count can be used to accurately measure the angular velocity and direction of the rotating shaft.
