To ensure reliable and accurate signal transmission, oscillators must be capable of generating stable and repeatable waveform signals over a wide range of frequencies. In this context, 637P18756C2T is an important type of oscillator that is built on the principle of Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC).The 637P18756C2T oscillator is a time-varying, electrical circuit with two inputs, an overdrive voltage (Vd) and a capacitive load (Cload). The oscillator consists of a JFET transistor (J1) and a tuned LC circuit, as shown in Fig.1. The JFET is not required but is needed for damping the oscillations. It is also recommended for operation above 10 MHz. The LC circuit is composed of inductor L1 and capacitor Cload. It oscillates only when the overdrive voltage (Vd) is above a certain minimum voltage, called the minimum overdrive voltage (Vo). The oscillation frequency (f) is given by:f = 1 / ( 2,π * √L1*Cload )The 637P18756C2T oscillator is temperature compensated and does not require any external components. The temperature compensation is accomplished by including the PTC element into the tuned LC circuit, or by varying the overdrive voltage, or both. By properly selecting the PTC, the frequency of the oscillator can be kept within 10 PPM over a wide range of temperatures. The overdrive voltage is the difference between the total voltage across the LC circuit and the critical voltage generated by the its resonance. This critical voltage is variable and is determined by the ratio of the inductance L1 and capacitance Cload that comprise the tuned LC circuit. An increase in capacitance increases the critical voltage, while an increase in inductance decreases it. This interdependent relationship between inductance and capacitance in the LC tank circuit determines the critical voltage, which in turn determines the overdrive voltage.In addition, the 637P18756C2T oscillator has a low jitter, low phase noise, and a wide tuning range. It also offers excellent stability and repeatability over a wide range of environmental conditions.
