The 6N135-X017T is a photovoltaic output optoisolator that combines a high voltage, 30 V (max) photodiode and a signal-level, PNP transistor output. It provides a signal coupling, and maintains electrical isolation between input and output, up to a maximum isolation voltage rating of 5000 V rms. The isolation voltage rating refers to the potential difference between the input and output circuits.

Applications of the 6N135-X017T optoisolator include: solid state relay interfacing, isolation of logic and analog signals, power switching, data transmission, breaking ground loops, amplifying low-level signals, signal conditioning, and isolation of multiple voltage signals to name a few. Due to its high breakdown voltage rating, the 6N135-X017T can also be used in situations requiring high isolation voltage compliance.

The working principle behind the 6N135-X017T optoisolator is quite simple. When an electrical current is applied to the input side of the optoisolator, the input current activates the photodiode, generating a light signal which is then sent through an internal isolation barrier to the output side of the optoisolator. When the light signal reaches the output side of the optoisolator it is detected by a sensitive photodiode and converted into an electrical signal that is then sent to the output transistor. This process allows for signal isolation between input and output sides ensuring a clean, noise free signal.

The 6N135-X017T optoisolator offers a number of advantages including high common mode noise rejection, wide operating temperature range (-40° to +85° C), low power consumption (5mA max), and a wide dynamic range (1.4V to 30V) among others. Further, it has an excellent optical coupling of greater than 1000mW/cm² and a low constant current operation over a wide range of input current from 1.5mA to 30mA.
