The 6N135SM Optoisolator is a 6-pin quad surface-mount Transistor with Photovoltaic Output. As an opto-coupler, it is designed to provide isolation between input and output, and provides a high degree of electrical insulation. With a low current, high out-of-band dynamic range, and low output capacitance, the 6N135SM integrates well into any circuit requiring an isolated signal. The device is widely used in the industrial, medical, consumer, automotive, and aerospace markets.

The 6N135SM Optoisolator is made up of an LED and photo-transistor combo. It receives input current (IF) to the LED which conversely sends signal current (IF) to the transistor unit. The LED is designed to convert the input current into light output, while the phototransistor converts the light output into electrical output. Isolation is achieved due to the separated pathways of the two components and the absence of direct current flow between the LED and phototransistor.

The 6N135SM has a minimum of 10kV/µs common mode and 3500V peak of isolation voltage. Its low intensity, high out-of-band dynamic range, and fast response time make it suitable for a variety of isolation applications. Its bipolar technology produces true AC/DC signal-reversal performance between the LED and phototransistor output.
