Common Mode Chokes
Common Mode Chokes (CMC) is a type of electromagnetic inductor which is typically used in order to suppress or eliminate unwanted electromagnetic interference (EMI). Specifically, CMCs are used to eliminate common mode noise, i.e. noise which is present on two or more lines at the same time. This noise can be generated by a wide variety of sources, such as switching power supplies, electric motors, or electric components in an electronic system.
There are two distinct types of CMCs; One is a fixed chokes which is designed to provide suppression to a specific frequency wave (depending on the value of the inductor), and the other is an adjustable type which can be adjusted to different current levels.
The most common application field for CMCs is in computing. CMCs have become a standard component in almost all computers today, and are used in order to minimize the amount of interference caused by different components within the computer. CMCs are also used in many other electrical equipment, such as servers, routers, networking equipment, telecommunication systems, and medical instruments.
7121-RC Application Field and Working Principle
