Working Principle

Film capacitors, like all capacitors, are circuit components used to store and release electrical energy. Film capacitors are constructed from two conductive materials separated by a thin nonconductive material, otherwise known as the dielectric. This creates two electrodes and a dielectric between them, which creates a capacitor. The capacitance is determined by the number of plates, the dielectric’s permittivity and the distance between the plates. When a voltage is applied across the terminals, the attract force between the plates builds up and an electric field is created.
