LED Spacers and Standoffs, often referred to as “7379”, are necessary components to create a secure, padded, low profile and reliable connection between two surfaces. Spacers and standoffs are commonplace in the lighting industry due to the highly competitive nature of the market. As a result, companies are constantly striving to create new ways to optimize performance and energy efficiency to stay competitive. With their design, 7379 features allow users to enjoy increased flexibility with regards to placement and assembly of luminaires. However, the nuts and bolts of how spacers and standoffs work isn’t always well understood.
Essentially, spacer and standoff components consist of an outer body and a crossbar or pin-type section. The outer body is typically round or hexagonal in shape and usually made of aluminum, stainless steel, zinc or brass. It has enough outside surface area to enable the active components such as LED diode, lens and reflector to be securely mounted on its inner surface to the other components such as frame, chassis or printed circuit board. The LED Spacer/Standoff bar is at the same time used to hold the two components together, the length of the bar is adjustable according to the clearance required between the two components.
LED standoffs and spacers can be used for two different purposes- either for application in the lighting industry or for display purposes. For lighting applications, spacers and standoffs can be used for thermal dissipation as well as for dynamic extrusion in a layered light engine (LLE) system. LLEs are highly efficient light engines consisting of a light source, an optical arrangement, an electrical arrangement and a thermal arrangement. Spacers and standoffs are used to optimally hold these components in place while dissipating excess heat.
In a display or similar application, LEDs and spacers or standoffs are used to hold the actual LED in place. For example, a round standoff which consists of colored threads or bumpers might be used to hold an LED in place on a printed circuit board (PCB). This optimizes the viewing angle, ensures that the LED is securely positioned and simplifies maintenance. LEDs and standoffs also come into play when dealing with intricate display applications that might require multiple angles or angles that need to remain consistent. LEDs and spacers are also helpful in ensuring a clean, professional look for the finished product.
The benefits of using 7379 applications in lighting and display applications are numerous. In the lighting industry, 7379 components can provide improved thermal performance and enhanced flexibility when it comes to the assembly, placement and configuration of luminaires. In display applications, LEDs and spacers or standoffs can provide improved visibility, optimized viewing angles and a more visually appealing end product.
Generally, LED Spacers/Standoffs are made of metal and plastic (such as nylon/polyamide, polyester, polypropylene etc) but some models also may be made of glass and other materials. In addition to metal and plastic applications, 7379 products also come in a variety of sizes and configurations, allowing users to select the perfect solution for their particular need. With the wide variety of materials, sizes and configurations available, 7379 applications can provide a secure, efficient and cost-effective connection between two surfaces.
