Incandescent lamps, also known as conventional light sources, rely on a coil of small diameter filament directly heated in a vacuum or a noble gas to emit light. The filaments are usually made out of tungsten due to its high melting point and thermal durability. Incandescent lamps have a number of applications, such as domestic and office lighting, landscape lighting, automotive lighting, decorative lighting and stage lighting. They are also widely used in the hospitality, retail and entertainment industries providing illumination for restaurants, lounges, stores and casinos.Incandescent lamps come in several varieties and are produced in various shapes and sizes. The most common types of incandescent lamps are A type, which have an almost spherical glass envelope, and ED type which have a cylindrical glass envelope. A type lamps are the most common of the incandescent lamps and produce a soft, warm light and are used for indoor lighting. ED type lamps are more efficient, usually producing a higher lumen output with the same wattage as an A type lamp. ED type lamps are often used in outdoor lighting and stage lighting.The working principle behind incandescent lamps is a simple one. In the bulb, a thin wire filament is heated by an electric current until it produces light. The electric current causes the filament to heat until it is white-hot, emitting light. The light emitted by the filament is then diffused in the glass envelope or bulb. Neon lamps are a type of gas-discharge lamps that are used for commercial, outdoor and decorative lighting. Neon lamps work on the principle of a gas-filled tube, which contains low-pressure inert gases such as neon or argon and an electric discharge that is triggered by the application of a high voltage to two electrodes inside the tube. When a high voltage is applied across the electrodes, a low-current electric arc is created in the gas, resulting in the release of light.Neon lamps are used in a wide variety of applications, such as illuminated signs, decorative lighting, theatrical lighting, indicators and alarms. They are available in a variety of colors and shapes but are most commonly seen in red and white. Neon lamps are highly efficient, with more than 95% of the energy consumed being converted into light. They are also low-maintenance, with a typical life expectancy of up to 30,000 hours.The working principle of a neon lamp is fairly simple. When a high voltage is applied between the two electrodes inside the tube, an electric arc is created between them. This arc is sustained by the inert gas, which ionizes and then recombines in a process called Townsend Discharge. This produces a bright light that is then diffused by the glass envelope.
