The 74AHCT132D is a dual 4-input NAND gate device with Schmitt-trigger action on all input leads. It has high-level logic for both logic families. Its operation and pin out are identical to the industry standard 7400 NAND gate, which makes the device virtually interchangeable. This allows the use of 74AHCT132D with existing design.The 74AHCT132D is widely used in logic-level conversion (from TTL to CMOS or vice versa), bus drivers, I/O interface buffer, and active filter. It is also able to perform devices in electrical circuits to isolate one circuit from another such as Schmitt Trigger input buffer, RS-Flip Flop, data selector/multiplexer, oscillator, scan-frequency generator, output port control, level transducers and shift register.Working Principle of the 74AHCT132D
The 74AHCT132D uses the Schmitt-trigger circuit design. This is an arrangement which uses positive feedback to provide hysteresis conditioning of the input signals. Hysteresis permits a gate whose output "switches" between two well-defined levels as a function of its input voltage.The Schmitt-trigger circuit employs two threshold voltages, Vt+ and Vt-. Typically, Vt+ is higher than Vt-. A small change in input voltage (approximately 0.2 volts) will cause a transition from high to low state at Vt+, while a larger input change (again, approximately 0.2 volts) will cause a transition from low to high at Vt-. The hysteresis produced by this circuit greatly reduces the effects of noise and ripple on the output.The input devices must have a more precise control over the state of the output than the NAND gate used in the prior design. The Schmitt-trigger provides enough hysteresis to significantly reduce or even eliminate false triggering of the device. This is especially important in applications such as frequency generators, where precise control of the output voltage is necessary.The 74AHCT132D is designed to function as a four-input NAND gate. When all four inputs are at ground potential (logic 0), the output is at Vcc (logic 1). If any one of the inputs is at logic 1, the output will go to ground (logic 0).
