74FCT373CTQG is a high-speed, low-power dual D-type flip-flop with separate rising-edge and falling-edge timing controls. It is a member of the Fairchild Logic family. The product consists of two flip-flop sections, each has independent LE (Latch Enable) and DIRECTION controls. Both flip-flop sections can be placed in either the latched or transparent state, depending on the logic level at the LE input. Both sections can also be switched between normal (“register”) and complementary (“inverter”) operating modes through the DIRECTION input. The device operates over a wide voltage range (2.7V to 5.5V). This device is ideal for high-speed and low-power applications.
74FCT373CTQG is mainly used in logic applications such as memory, pipeline registers, signal processing, clocked logic systems and state-machines. It can also be used for analog applications such as sample-and-hold circuits, signal mixing and signal switching operations. The flip-flop can also be used for error detection and correction. The working principle of 74FCT373CTQG is relatively simple. It is designed to accept data in high or low logic state and transfer it to another logic state upon the rising or falling edge of a clock pulse. The flip-flop consists of two sections, each having an LE (Latch Enable) input and a DIRECTION input. The LE input allows the user to place the flip-flop in either the Latched or Transparent state. When the LE input is set to High, the flip-flop is in the latched state and any data that is presented to the D input is retained until the LE input is brought low. When the LE input is set to low, the flip-flop is in the transparent state and the data present at the D input will be transferred to the Q output on the rising or falling edge of the clock pulse.
The DIRECTION input determines the behavior of the flip-flop. When the DIRECTION input is high, the flip-flop will operate in normal, or “register” mode and the data presented at the D input will be transferred to the Q output on the rising or falling edge of the clock pulse. When the DIRECTION input is low, the flip-flop will operate in complementary or “inverter” mode and the data presented at the D input will be inverted prior to being transferred to the Q output. This allows the user to easily implement circuit with complex logic functions.
