Logic - Signal Switches, Multiplexers, Decoders

The 74HC153D and 652 devices are a range of logic families from the 74HC family from NEXPERIA. These devices are two complementary 4 to 1 multiplexers. The 74HC153D is equipped with two data select inputs, A and B, four inputs D0, D1, D2 and D3, and two outputs Y0 and Y1.The 74HC652 has two data select inputs, A and B, four inputs D0, D1, D2 and D3, and four outputs Y0, Y1, Y2 and Y3.

Application

The 74HC153D and 652 devices are widely used in data decoding, processing of programming data, decoding of address signals and memory decoding, as well as other multiplexer applications. In order to increase the control flexibility of the system, these multiplexers can also be combined with input and output logic circuits and can be used as the basic circuit of formulating a variety of multiplexer and gate equivalent circuits.

Working principle

When the A and B selection inputs are both set to 0(L-level), Y0 and Y1 select the low level input of D0 and D1. When A and B are both set to 1(H-level), Y0 and Y1 select the high level input of D2 and D3. When A and B are in different levels, Y0 selects the data input of D0 in the same level, and Y1 selects the data input of D3 in the opposite level. For 74HC652, when A and B selection inputs are both set to 0(L-level), Y0,Y1,Y2,Y3 select the low-level input of D0,D1,D2,D3, respectively. When A and B are set to 1(H-level), Y0,Y1,Y2,Y3 select the high-level input of D0,D1,D2,D3, respectively. When A and B are in different levels, Y0,Y1 select the data inputs of D0 and D3 in the same level;Y2,Y3 select the data inputs of D1 and D2 in the opposite level.
