Product introductionThe 74HCT6323AD,118 is an advanced high speed CMOS 8-BIT SHIFT REGISTER fabricated with silicon gate CMOS technology. It is pin and functionally compatible with the industry type 54/74LS299. As well as types from other vendors with slightly different pinouts being available.The 74HCT6323AD,118 is designed for clock rates in excess of 25 MHZ for the replacement of the LS version. The outputs can drive 15 LS loads.ApplicationThe application of 74HCT6323AD,118 covers majority of logic operations, such as memory shift registers, bidirectional shift registers and processor related operations.• 74HCT6323AD,118 is capable to perform shift, right or left, without evaluation of the direction.• In addition the data shifted is parallel loaded with the synchronous pulse of S load.• Needless to say the data entry is controlled by the clock and loaded in to the shift register when CP=H.Working principleSince the 74HCT6323AD,118 is a parallel-in and serial-out shift register, it is logically divided into two main blocks as shown in the figure.The first block is formed by Data Input pins (D0 – D7). As their names suggest, these are the pins from which data is applied to initiate the shifting. The data loaded into this block is held there until the data is shifted out by the Clock signal. Additionally, Clock Enable (CE) pin, set high or low can enable or disable the Clock signal and, therefore, control the data shifting process.The second block is the 8-bit shift register, which is essentially the main functioning part of the logic device. When the Clock Enable pin is set high and the Clock signal is applied, then the data from the Data Input pins moves into the shift register one bit at a time. More specifically, the serial data moves from D0 to D7, and D7 is the output of the shift register. Each time this operation repeats, the next bit of data is shifted into the register, and shifted out to D7.ConclusionTo conclude, the 74HCT6323AD,118 is a versatile and highly efficient parallel-in and serial-out shift register which is suitable for a variety of applications. This shift register can be used for memory shift registers, bidirectional shift registers and processor related operations.
