Logic translators and level shifters are essential to connect devices from different logic families which run on different power supplies. 74LVC8T245BQ,118 is one of them. It is an octal bidirectional transceiver with push-pull output and 5.2V tolerant inputs.
This translates low voltage (LVTTL) to high voltage (LVHSTL) and vice versa. Signal levels beyond the supply voltage can be transfer to the other side without the need of an external power supply.
It integrates an 8-bit buffers with three-state outputs on one side and an 8-bit transceivers with active low output enable and receiver input-enable control on the other side. Outputs can be directly connected to 5V systems.

It operates on a wide range of supply voltage between 0~7V and its high-impedance input and output enable allows signals to float without pulling current when not in use. When pins are disabled, the chips do not consume power which makes it ideal for low power applications.
