Logic-Translators, Level Shifters have become an important bridge between different logic families. They should overcome the non-uniformality of logic levels between different logic families. The 74LVC3245 is a low voltage logic codifier, a simple 8-bit FET switch which is controlled by 8 signals, providing an optimized solution for different voltage supply and long distance data transmission. It is an ideal translator for 3V and 5V interface designs, widely applicable in embedded systems, mobile phones, optical communication modules, and medical accessories.
The 74LVX3245 belongs to the 74LVXXX low voltage family. This series of logic families include a 0-3.6V input and output levels, which can be integrated with the 3.3V system. The operating voltage of the 74LVX3245 is from 1.65V to 3.6V, providing applications with a higher level of system integration. This series of codifiers also support power saving, as the current limiting of each transmission channel can be adjusted through delivering a certain amount of current. This can reduce the risk of input being destroyed due to high voltage overloading on the receiver side, providing data transmission and active current status.
The working principle of the 74LVX3245 is based on a particular FET switch. It consists of 8 single FET switches, each having its corresponding channel. This FET works as a translational bridge between different logic levels, the open control cell is used to implement the level shifting. The control cell is activated by the input signal voltage, when the input signal voltage is higher than the FET switch switching voltage, then a conductive current is generated, and the current will be transmitted between the two sides.
Apart from translating logic levels, the 74LVX3245 also provides an automatic protection on the receiver side. When the receiver side approaches the threshold voltage of negative Vdd, the FET switch will start to have an auto-protection property. This property works by shut down the specific FET, to prevent a high voltage transporting through the FET switch and burned the receiver side, the FET will re-enabled when the value of VDD on the receiver side returns to normal, thus providing an uninterrupted data flow.
The 74LVX3245 provides customers with an effective and optimize solution for level-shifting and protecting data transmission. It is easy to use and has a low power consumption, providing a large-scale of applications including embedded systems, communication modules and medical accessories.
