The 78366 Type SL001 Multiple Conductor Cable is a multipurpose cable designed for a variety of applications. It is a UL listed, CSA certified, individually shielded, and shielded-in-sheath multipurpose cable manufactured with shielded twisted pairs (UTP), triads (TTr), and quad cable (QTP). Each individual conductor is finely stranded polymer-coated annealed copper. The overall jacketing of this cable is a RoHS compliant polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
This cable is primarily designed for applications such as data communication, instrumentation, audio, control, and fiber optics. It is also suitable for use in areas that require improved noise immunity. The individual twisted pairs and triads reduce interference and signal noise, producing smoother signals and lowering the chance of interference. Each array of cable is individually shielded with an EMI/RFI/EMP shield layer. The outer jacketing on the cable also acts as a shield to prevent ingress of external noise.
The working principle of a Multiple Conductor Cable is relatively straight forward. Each of the individual conductors works slightly differently depending on the type of cable. For example, twisted pair cable (UTP) typically works by rotating the start and end point of two conductors creating a twist. This twist helps to reduce crosstalk between the two conductors by isolating them from each other. Triads (TTr) cables usually work by sending signals between three conductors using one common ground in the middle and two data lines (out and return). This arrangement helps to reduce crosstalk by separating data signals on the two different conductors.
