Reed Relays
Reed relays are a form of electrical switch actuated by an electromagnetic field. They are frequently used when certain conditions must be met to trigger the switch, such as when two or more inputs must be present simultaneously. Within measuring instruments, they are used to control the flow of current in a circuit or sensing device. Computer applications involve not only switches, but also logic circuits and other high-speed computing tasks. The working principle of a reed relay is based on electromagnetic induction between the permanent magnets and armature contact. When an electrical current is sent through the wire or coil wrapped around the magnets and frame, the armature is attracted and pulled into the magnetic field, thus actuating the switch. When the current is removed, the armature is released and allowed to return to its original position, turning off the switch. This switching action is performed quickly and requires very little power, making it an ideal choice for many applications. Reed relays are extremely versatile and can be used in a wide range of applications where switching speeds and power efficiency are paramount.
