80AFE electrical fuses are manufactured from special temperature resistant materials and are used to protect industrial control systems and associated electrical circuits from severe damage due to electric and thermal overloads. These fuses perform optimally when subjected to hightemperature overloads and/or short circuit currents. 80AFE fuses provide exceptional performance in the minimal space requirement.
80AFE fuse applications are available in a wide range of sizes, materials, voltage ratings, time/current curves, and service conditions. They are designed for a wide range of applications including motor protection, welding, sentry systems, instrumentation, and isolation protection.
80AFE fuses are manufactured in two types – Inductive Fuses and Non-Inductive Fuses. Inductive fuses are designed to protect circuits against inductive loads such as motors, giving protection against electric shocks and overload. Non-Inductive fuses are designed to protect circuit against non-inductive loads such as resistive loads, capacitive loads, and transformer inputs. Both types of fuses offer exceptional protection against overloads and short circuits.
The working principle of 80AFE fuses is based on the use of a specially designed metal strip that melts when the current exceeds the rated value. The metal strip melts and the current is interrupted, thus providing effective protection from overcurrent and short circuit conditions. The current is also interrupted in the case of a thermal overload, this is based on the heat generated by the fuse’s surface temperature reaching above the design temperature.
There are a few components used in 80AFE fuses which help in their efficient functioning. These include a fuse holder, a fuse link, a contact blade, and a heat sink. The fuse holder is the main unit that holds the fuse link securely in position. The fuse link is made from a special temperature resistant material, which is designed to melt and interrupt the current when the current exceeds its design rating. The contact blade provides the connection between the fuse link and the electric circuit. Finally, the heat sink absorbs the heat generated by the fuse, thereby preventing the fuse from reaching excessive temperatures.
These components combined ensure the proper functioning of the fuse and provide users with protection from over-currents and short circuits. 80AFE fuses are specially designed for industrial automation and are optimized for harsh working environments where protection from electric and thermal hazards is essential.
