Fixed Inductors are essential components used widely in today’s electrical systems. They are categorized as a type of passive electrical component that stores energy in a magnetic field when current passes through it. An inductor is basically a coil of wire that will resist changes in electrical current. The resistance to changes in current in an inductor is called its inductance. The inductance of an inductor can vary from a few nanohenrys up to several millihenrys. In this article, we will discuss the 8230-20 application field and working principle of a fixed inductor.

The 8230-20 is an SMD (surface mountable device) and is available in two models, the 8230-1 and the 8230-2. Its application field mainly consists of DC-DC converters, power supplies, and motor drives which require low power consumption and high reliability. The 8230-20 fixed inductor works on the principle of magnetic flux producing a cylindrical form coil. The magnetic field produced stores the energy in it and due to this stored energy, there is resistance to the change in the current resulting in the inductor to act as a device that restricts and controls current. The 8230-20 fixed inductor is designed to have low inductance values so the performance of the inductors can be kept to a minimum.

The 8230-20 fixed inductor comes with a useful feature called “leakage”. This feature will help in preventing the failure of the inductor during high current operation while also reducing radiated interference. The maximum leakage current for this inductor is at 5uA and is suitable for operation at high current and at high temperature environments.
