83023AMILFT (Figure 1) is a voltage-level translator and logic translator chip, which has the functions of level shifting and logic conversion. Specifically, it can convert digital signals from a 2.5V/3.3V interface to a 5V interface, and translate digital signals from binary language to Gray or BCD language or from Gray/BCD language to binary language, as well as other logic operations. Its big feature is the low voltage input, which can make the circuit system be able to work at a low voltage.

Application Field
83023AMILFT can be used in many different applications. For example, it can be used to convert the signals with different logic levels, like a 3.3V signal to a 5V signal. Also, it can be used in the field of IC testing and monitoring, where it can convert the Gray Binary codes to a more regular Binary codes, so that the logic operation can be more easily done. Moreover, it can be treated as a buffer component to reduce outside influence, making the circuit more reliable. And also, it can be used together with other logic chips to trigger a signal delay or reduce noise interference.
Working Principle
The chip has 8 binary code input pins and 8 binary code output pins. Besides, there are 4 low voltage enable pins, enable A, enable B, enable C, and enable D. Both enable A and enable B are used to enable the top half of logic chip so that the top half can do logic operations. Similarly, enable C and enable D enable the bottom half of the chip. There are 8 item select pins, which are numbered from 0 to 7. Generally, its operation is as following: First, the enable C/D voltage must be higher than the two enable A/B voltage in order to enable the chip. Also, the input voltage and the enable voltage must be more than the set voltage. Then, the 8 item select pins are used with the two enable A/B voltages in order to choose the corresponding input voltage, and then the combinatorial logic operation between the input voltages and the corresponding output voltage can be done. After that, the output voltage is translated with the two enable C/D voltages.
Finally, if the item select pins are low, the output voltage is separated from the input voltage, and then the signals of the same group come out with the same output voltage. If the item select pin is high, the chip will output the voltage of the corresponding input pin.
