ELF connectors, also known as Backplane Connectors, are connectors developed to improve the availability and speed of data exchange between electrical components. They are typically composed of a male and female circuitboard such as a printed circuit board (PCB) with metal contacts and a dielectric plastic case. This type of connector can be used to connect two PCBs together, creating an electrical connection between them that allows data to be transferred quickly and reliably.

ELF connectors were first developed by Deutsch in the early 1970s. Their development was spurred by the need to have a reliable and efficient way to connect electrical components together without having to resort to soldering or different devices with different connectors.
