Working Principle

The 86453-520LF rectangular connector header design utilizes a metal contact that engages with a raised tab on the mating socket or cable, making it very secure and reliable. The contact is made of phosphor bronze, and it is mated with a spring and PCB connector body that is constructed of phosphor bronze, stainless steel, or nickel plated brass, depending on the finish. The connector also contains a secure hold-down that is designed to prevent any accidental disengagements.

The working principle is simple, when the connector is mated with its mating socket or cable, the contact inside the connector is pushed against the raised tab on the mating surface, creating an electrical connection. The contact is then locked into place by the hold-down, as well as friction from the tongue and groove mating surfaces. When the connector is disengaged, the contact is released, and the connection is broken.
