The working principle of the 87402-520 rectangular connector’s locking system is quite simple. The male pins have a guide groove milled around their circumference, which allows them to slide into the corresponding grooves in the housing when the plug is inserted. The connector is designed so that the pins are offset relative to each other, and when the pins are inserted into the housing, they are forced to slide downwards and lock into place. This ensures that even under extreme vibration, the pins will remain securely locked in the housing - the locking force of the connector is 3000 N.
