Rectangular Connectors – Headers, Receptacles, Female Sockets87989-3 application field and working principleRectangular connectors which belong to 87989 series components widely used in industrial automation, automotive, railway, information technology, medical and military applications. 87989 series connectors have two types – headers and receptacles. Since headers and receptacle are complementary and interconnect at the same time this kind of product have no gender, contrary to circular connectors.87989-3 is ethernet connector mainly used for Industrial Ethernet and communication devices. It is designed for compact size, multiple contact style and high-performance transmission. 87989-3 series is in compliance with IEC 61076-3-106.In industrial application field, 87989-3 connectors are main used for audio outputs, sensors, industrial Ethernet and RJ45 applications. It is designed for the Ethernet of Gigabit and is capable to transmit up to 10, 100 and 1000 Mbps. The short-term performance is better than glass fiber and wireless transmission. Its protection is IP 68-9.The inner structure of 87989-3 is composed of main contacts, polarization contacts and shorting contacts. The main contacts is made up of gold-plated beryllium copper or stainless steel spring for excellent electrical and Mechanical performance. The contact area is usually 0.16mm square or 0.2mm square with rated current rating of 2.5A, and voltage rating of 250V AC/DC. The polarization contact located between the plugs for reliable connection while the shorting contact deals with the safety protection and disengaging of electric circuit when the connector is plugged out.When installing the connectors, users need to check the design, environment temperature, air humidity and transmission speed. 87989-3 series are widely used in harsh environment which requires the users to meet several requirements. For example, in railway applications, it should fulfill the standard NF F 16-101 and NF F 16-102, and the voltage rating of 300V AC/DC, the temperature of −25°C to +85°C as well as vibration during continuous operation.The pins assembly of 87989-3 is very complicated. The user need to check the neutral point, the insulation board, the jack and other accessories before plugging in. In order to secure the connection, it is designed with an "open preload" and "closed preload". The preload provides compressive force to the mating parts, thus ensuring the secure engagement and reliable transmission. Overall, 87989-3 is a specialized connector for industrial Ethernet application. Equipped with numerous features and different types of contacts, this series of product has a wide range of application possibilities in various industries.
