Reed Relays
Reed relays are an electronically operated switch used mainly in circuitry where only low power is being switched. The relay consists of an electromagnet which contains an armature and two sealed reed contacts. When a voltage is applied to the relay, current flows through the electromagnet, producing a magnetic field which causes the armature to be pulled in and closes both the reeds. This is the same principle that is used in a standard electrical relay and has many of the same advantages, including long life and reliability.
