Pneumatics & Hydraulics

At its most basic, pneumatics and hydraulics are technology involving pressurized gas or liquid to cause movement. Pneumatics involve pressurized gas, usually air, while hydraulics involve pressurized liquid. Nowadays, however, the two are often interlinked and used in combination to create high power mechanisms.

In pneumatic systems, the mechanical force of the compressed air is used to move and/or control certain objects. It works by taking in a compressed air that is used to run a component. It is then released and allowed to move the component or reset it back to its original position. Pneumatic technology is widely used in a variety of industrial applications.

Hydraulic systems work in a similar way to pneumatic systems, but with liquids instead of air. They are usually driven by pressurized liquids such as hydraulic fluid. The pressure created by this fluid is used to control and move objects. This is done by allowing the fluid to enter certain areas and create pressure. The pressure then forces certain levers and cams to move.

The two systems, pneumatic and hydraulic, are also used together to create more power than either system alone. This combination of systems is often referred to as power fluid technology, and is used in high-powered machines such as automobile engines and robotic arms. The combination of the two systems allows for greater output and strength than either would provide alone.

Despite the similarities between pneumatic and hydraulic systems, each has its own advantages in certain applications. Hydraulic systems are better suited to applications that require very strong forces or lifts, as they are able to create pressure greater than pneumatics can.

Not to mention that pneumatic and hydraulic systems are essential for safety in many applications.

The combination of pneumatic and hydraulic systems gives engineers the flexibility to design high strength machines and devices. With careful planning and understanding of both systems, engineers can create a wide range of powerful and versatile machinery.
