A4957SESTR-T is a PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) integrated motor driver, controller and gate driver from Allegro MicroSystems. The device consists of two H-bridge power output stages, an edrive output stage for two bi-directional (forward and reverse) brushless DC motors, a Logic Gate interface for controlling the drive outputs, four voltage feedback inputs for motor current and speed regulation and nine logic inputs for controlling the motor direction, speed and acceleration.

The A4957SESTR-T is particularly suitable for driving BLDC (brushless DC) motors with or without encoders. It is capable of driving a wide range of motor sizes and can be used in multiple applications such as robots, industrial automation and medical systems.

The A4957SESTR-T can be configured with either unipolar or bipolar output control. With the unipolar setting, the H-bridges can each sink or source up to 1.8 A continuously and up to 3 A for short periods of time. The edrive output can sink or source up to 1 A continuously and up to 2 A for short periods of time. With the bipolar setting, the H-bridges can each sink or source up to 3.6 A continuously and up to 6 A for short periods of time.

The A4957SESTR-T uses several different approaches for controlling the motor outputs. It can be used with two different variable speed control algorithms: voltage mode and current mode. In voltage mode, the output voltage of the motor is regulated by controlling the motor’s applied voltage. In current mode, the output current of the motor is regulated.
