Oscillators

Oscillators are widely used both in industrial and consumer applications. An oscillator is an electronic circuit that uses the properties of reactance and resonance to generate an output signal. Oscillators are classified according to the frequency and type of output they generate: radio frequency (RF) oscillators generate a continuous sine wave output, digital (TTL) oscillators generate a square wave output, and logic (CMOS) oscillators generate a pulse-width-modulated output. For applications that require precise frequency stability or low-noise operation, voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs) may be used to generate a wide range of output frequencies.

ACOL-32.000MHZ-EK application field and working principle

The ACOL-32.000MHZ-EK is a highly stable RF oscillator operating over a wide temperature range. The oscillator is designed for use in modulators, demodulators, transceivers, signal generators, receivers, transponders and other communication systems. The oscillator generates a precise 32MHz signal with an extremely low phase noise of -80 dBc/Hz within the narrowband roll-off frequency range of 10 kHz-100 MHz.

The ACOL-32.000MHZ-EK utilizes a high-dynamic-range voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) for wide temperature range stability. The reference frequency of the oscillator is derived from the oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) which is encased inside a sealed oven enclosure. The VCO (sourced from the OCXO) is feedback-controlled by a high linearity phase-locked loop (PLL) circuitry. The unit is also designed with temperature compensation and calibration functions and is equipped with an EMI filter to prevent any interference from external sources.

The ACOL-32.000MHZ-EK is offered in various package types and is compatible with AM, FM and Sigma Delta radio protocols. It has a wide supply voltage range of 4.5 to 15V and low power consumption of 1W. The unit is designed in conformity to the ROHS directive, has an excellent frequency-pulling sensitivity, is easy to integrate and operate and offers excellent phase noise performance.
